The ever rising cost of household energy has forced many people to make a direct choice between heating and putting food on the table for their families. Millions of Britons are struggling to find the money to afford to heat their homes, particularly elderly people who find themselves with no choice but to completely turn off their boiler, even during the coldest times of year.
It is a horrific situation but one that we must all face up to. You cannot sit back and keep your fingers crossed hoping that energy prices will drop as they are not going to any time soon, you need to do something to rectify the situation or at least do something to make it less of an issue.
What are we referring to?…
There is no getting away from the fact that traditional timber windows have an aesthetic quality to them that few other window types bear comparison. The natural wood grain effect of a timber window has very few equals, but retaining that elegant appearance can be extremely time-consuming and frustrating for many homeowners.
Every few years, a fresh coat of paint and varnish needs to be applied in order to ensure that the gradual wear and tear that commonly occurs in timber fails to gain a firm grip on it. However, not everyone has the time or even the inclination to go to such lengths to keep them in pristine condition.
If your patience has begun to run out with your old windows or they have simply reached the end of their shelf-life then you need to employ the expert help of Wessex Windows, stockists of double glazing in Eastleigh, double glazing in Portsmouth and double glazing in Southampton.…
Whether you own or rent a property you have a considerable number of financial obligations that need to be dealt with in order to remain as owner or tenant; council tax, mortgage or rent fees, TV licence and energy bills. Speak to any householder and ask which of those financial obligations have most left a dent in their finances and the chances are that energy bills will come out on top.
Energy companies have across the board announced a series of price hikes over the past few years, resulting in the annual fuel bill reaching an all-time average cost of more than £1,300 per year and if predictions are to be believed, that figure will rise further as time progresses.
A lot of it comes down to the energy efficiency of a property.…
Mention the word conservatory to most people and they will immediately associate it with the larger traditional designs such as the Edwardian or Victorian style. Whilst these two designs tend to be the most popular option amongst homeowners looking to extend their property, there are similar and more compact designs available.
Wessex Windows stock conservatory designs such as the Lean-to specifically for those living in a bungalow or household with a low-pitched roof who aspire to own a home extension.
The thing about a Lean-to that makes it so perfect for the smaller home is that whilst is has a minimalist design, it still supplies you with a significant amount of useful floor space. It can also bring your home that bit closer to your garden so that you can enjoy the indoors and outdoors at the same time.…

The cost of energy is a constant worry for the average UK family nowadays as they struggle to heat their home at a reasonable cost and continue to be burdened with costly bills. It is an all too familiar story for Wessex Windows as day in, day out; we are approached by customers desperate to cut the cost of energy and searching for a suitable solution. Energy company E.ON has been forced to pay back a total of 1.4 million pounds to 94,000 customers after they were found to have incorrectly charged exit fees or overcharged following their recent price rises.
The situation occurred as E.ON failed to adhere to the 30-day rule which allows customers to switch suppliers when an increase in energy is announced by their supplier. It works out as an average repayment of 14.83 pounds per customer.
Finding the right supplier of gas and electricity has been difficult for many people due to the wealth of complicated tariffs that are available. In some cases, energy companies offer hundreds of different tariffs which makes it near impossible to figure out the deal that provides the best value for money.…
Sat inside your home you will have noticed that the weather is less than ideal when it comes to wanting to venture outdoors. It’s the coldest period of the year and your home is likely to be where you spend most of your spare time.
There are however issues that homeowners discover especially when the weather is colder and that is the quality of their windows.
There are many tell-tale signs that there is something not quite right with them. One of them is the condensation which will appear in mornings after a cold night. This can lead to damp and is generally not very pleasant when you have water droplets on the inside of your home.
There is also the chance of a breeze running through your home.…
Home-related trends change on a frequent basis. Styles and designs that are in one moment, later become out-dated and old-fashioned in a quick period of time. One of our most recent products is the Veranda conservatory, a home extension that allows you to enjoy indoor and outdoor living under cover.
Like traditional conservatories in Southampton, conservatories in Farnborough and conservatories in Basingstoke, the Veranda conservatory offers a huge amount of indoor spaciousness, but differs in that it also has a set of bi-fold doors and an over-hanging glass roof with Veranda attached.…
