As the nights draw in, for many people here in and around Hampshire, the problem of condensation increases. With the weather getting colder, its only natural to turn the heating up indoors. However, if your home is not sufficiently insulated, or you have a poor heating system, you may find condensation forming on your windows and other surfaces.
The problem of condensation in autumn and the winter months is further compounded by an increase in other activities, such as cooking and drying clothes indoors. Such activities and weather increase the temperature difference between the inside of your home and the outdoors. When this happens, there is also an increase in the creation of water vapour, with this water vapour forming the condensation we all want to eliminate.
Whilst most condensation is only slight, its continuous build-up can damage surfaces and furniture, as well as lead to the formation of black mould, which can be detrimental to your family’s health. To help prevent this, there are a number of small things you can do that will help to eliminate any small build up of condensation. Whilst it is true that clothes don’t dry as well outdoors in cold weather, windy weather can often help to dry clothes, as well as keep them fresh. It is important to try and hang clothes outdoors as much as possible, as this will reduce the time needed to dry indoors.
Of course, there are times when the build up of condensation is likely down to a more serious problem, such as poor insulation. One of the easiest and most effective ways of improving your home’s insulation is to install modern, double and triple-glazed windows. Not only will such windows help to eliminate the build-up of condensation, but also reduce your heating bills.
