Incredible styling & beauty

A bespoke orangery is one of the most dramatic ways you can transform how your home looks and how you use it. From a luxury lounge and dining room, to a stylish home office or entertaining area, the versatility of a bespoke orangery gives you the freedom to create anything you want and the flexibility to change how you use it, again and again. Bespoke Orangeries combine the strength of solid brick walls with the many benefits of a glass conservatory. Most simply described as a room with a glazed, often lantern-styled, roof, a modern orangery is incredibly versatile and flexible. As such, orangeries allow you to use this fantastic new space regardless of what the weather is doing outside.

The freedom of bespoke orangeries

As the leading supplier of bespoke orangeries in Hampshire, we will give you complete control over the look and feel of your orangery. Our experienced designers will help you create an orangery perfectly sized and suited to your home. From the choice of frame materials and types of glazing, to doors and interior accessories, we offer enough selection to ensure you get a cheap bespoke orangery perfectly suited and designed to match your individual needs. Such selection includes bi-folding doors that instantly bring the outdoors into your home, energy efficient frames and glazing that will keep your home warm and reduce your energy bills, noise-reducing roofs, and self-cleaning windows.

UPVC, Aluminium or Heritage – the choice is yours…

UPVC

Choosing UPVC is the easy choice for many homeowners and their orangery due to it being affordable, low maintenance and long lasting. UPVC frames are also thermal efficient and provide a good level of noise reduction. The negative for many people is that UPVC orangeries often don’t provide the aesthetically pleasing addition that people are looking for, however recent developments in the industry such as woodgrain finishes, mean that homeowner can get the best of both worlds with their new orangery .

Aluminium

There are few design limits when it comes to an aluminium orangery, allowing you to easily transform your orangery ideas into reality. Powder coated aluminium is unlikely to ever fade, plus can come in almost any colour. Aluminium is, in our view, the ultimate building material – lightweight and yet strong and incredibly durable – so creating your orangery from aluminium is an investment that will last for many years to come, plus aluminium is also an ideal building material if your orangery is going to be particularly large or exposed to severe weather conditions. Aluminium’s properties enable it to be extruded with fine detail, so traditional features can be built into the design of any aluminium orangery .

Heritage

Mechanically jointed timber-effect Heritage windows feature a flush fitting sash which replicates, to almost exact detail, the appearance of 19th century windows and when used in the construction of an orangery the result is nothing short of stunning. The design of the window frame and sash is complemented by traditional hardware such as butt hinges, peg stays and monkey tail handles.

Opening up your new orangery…

Every home is different. Every homeowner is different. This is why we offer so many options to our customers and this includes the types of doors.  Orangery doors can come in the form or Patio Doors, French Doors or Bi-Folding Doors. All 3 come in various styles, colours and finishes, but also with their own features and benefits which are outlined below.

Bi-fold Doors

Why settle for the ordinary when you can have the extraordinary in the form of a set of Bi-folding doors from Wessex Window Systems. Built using the very latest technology, Bi-folding doors operate on a concertina system which will allow you to fully open up the rear of your property out into your garden in Hampshire, Southampton, Winchester or Portsmouth. Patio Doors

If you would like to increase the amount of natural light that enters your orangery, whilst minimising the space taken up by the doors, then Patio doors might be the best option for you and your home. The great expanse of glass used within the construction of a set of patio doors helps to create excellent views out on the exterior of your property in Hampshire. Practical and versatile with stunning classical appearance, they have been the customer’s choice for decades.

French Doors

Investing in a set of French Doors from Wessex Window Systems is a great way for homeowners within Hampshire to bridge the gap between the interior of their properties and their gardens. Double opening French doors turn a simple doorway into a grand entrance and the expanse of double glazed or triple glazed glass allows a huge amount of light into your Hampshire home helping to create a feeling of spaciousness, even when closed.

A quality orangery requires a quality roof…

Any conservatory roof should be glazed appropriately to ensure a comfortable living environment all year round. Conservatory roofs can be fitted with a variety of technically advanced glazing materials, each with specific light and heat control benefits, affected by factors such as geographical location, cost, energy conservation and aspect.

Classic Roof

The minimalist style of a classic roof provides the biggest glass area as possible, which in turn lets in a very large amount of light. The simplicity of its design means that the roof can be applied to orangeries of any shape and size. It has been tried and tested on orangeries thousands of times. The Classic Roof can be glazed with polycarbonate though the vast majority of people investing in an orangery opt for a glass roof.

Cornice Roof

This style is an addition to a classic roof with use of an external cornice which is solely about appearance and charm. The cornice is the perfect finishing touch to an orangery, merging the brickwork walls with the glazed roof and creating what many feel is a more ‘complete’ building and giving a more traditional look and feel. Of course, the cornice is available in a range of colours to match the orangery roof itself.

Lantern Roof

Also known as Atrium Roofs, Lantern Roofs are a clear evolution and descendent of the buildings first created centuries ago, giving any Orangery a much more traditional look. But while their appearance may have changed gradually, the technology and innovation that goes into their production has advanced rapidly and, in that sense, they are barely recognisable from their predecessors. The roof itself sits atop of the building and does not quite span to outer perimeters of the orangery, therefore providing unique views and snapshots of the skies above.

Every colour under the Sun…

Although white has been the accepted colour choice for orangeries for a long time, Wessex has many more options than that in both the UPVC and Aluminium ranges.

The aluminium range now comes in 21 stylish colours, whilst with UPVC, woodgrain finishes are becoming more and more popular and come in 9 different colour options.

Hampshire’s finest orangeries and most welcoming service

There is no better way of extending your existing Hampshire home than with a Wessex orangery. Those who view your home will see it from a totally new perspective, whilst you will benefit from the most luxurious living.

We understand that because a conservatory makes such a difference to your home, it is important to get it right. Our culture of customer satisfaction means that customers take priority in the whole process; from initial discussion to final installation and fitting out. We will design the perfect conservatory for you and your home.

Energy Efficiency

An important consideration when deciding to improve your home with a new orangery is around the product’s energy efficiency. Poor quality products and shoddy workmanship can mean that valuable heat is lost. During the winter, this  could make your orangery a less enjoyable place to be, as well as bringing up your heating bills. All Energy Rated products From Wessex Window Systems are ‘A’ Rated. By installing our energy rated windows as part of your conservatory, your home home will be more environmentally friendly and a more affordable place to live.

Security

When considering the functionality of your new orangery, security is obviously an important factor. We understand this consideration which is why we have invested heavily in developing the latest technology and manufacturing market leading products. This means that customers of Wessex Windows can purchase their orangery with confidence that the investment made will keep unwanted visitors out and their family safe.

Noise Reduction

When adding a orangery to a property, consideration has to be made for how well it keeps noise form the outside world out. For countryside properties, this may be less of an issue, however in built up areas, the sounds of busy life want to be kept out, and we have developed top quality products to achieve this.  Whatever your needs and preferences, we have the right product for you and your property.

Planning Permission & Building Regulations for Orangeries

Wessex Window Systems will take care of all necessary Planning Permission & Building Regulations for the installation of your Orangery with your local authority – however here is a summary of the basic facts.

Under the present legislation, if certain criteria are met you will not require planning permission in Hampshire including Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester for Orangeries, unless you are adding a conservatory to a house that has already been extended. In addition, developers sometimes place further restrictions so it is worth checking if your house is a ‘new build’.

In order to remain exempt from planning permission, Orangeries must adhere to the following principles:

  • At least half of the new walls and three quarters of the roof is either glazed or translucent material.
  • They are built at ground level and are less than 30 square metres in floor area.
  • The orangery is separated from the house by external quality door(s).
  • Glazing and any fixed electrical installations comply with the applicable building regulations requirements.

From 1st October 2008 new rules for conservatories and extensions took affect which replaced the old rules and affect conservatories as follows:

  • No extension forward of the principal elevation or side elevation fronting a highway. This means that any conservatory on the front or side of a house that will be closer to a public highway than the original house will need planning permission. A highway is any public right of way including footpaths.
  • Maximum depth of a single-storey rear extension of three metres for an attached house and four metres for a detached house. The width of a conservatory running along the back length of a house is not constrained at all unless it projects beyond the house which is constrained by rule 3. A house is only detached if there is no solid structure connecting it to a neighbour. A “link” house is therefore not detached nor would be two houses with a common garage. The rules on what counts as being detached have not changed from the previous ones.
  • Side extensions to be single storey with maximum height of four metres and width no more than half that of the original house.
  • Maximum eaves height of an extension within two metres of the boundary of three metres from the lowest point on the ground.
  • No balconies or raised platforms.
  • On designated land no permitted development for rear extensions of more than one storey; no cladding of the exterior; no side extensions.
  • No more than half the area of land around the “original house” would be covered by additions or other buildings.
  • Maximum height of a single-storey rear extension of four metres.
